5 Ways to Spend Less on Formal Attire

All dressed up and nowhere to go ... A colourf...

When you hear the words formal wear you immediately think expensive and elegant. You can still be elegant without spending a lot of money. Women are much better equipped to handle a formal occasion. Most guys don’t have tuxedos hanging in their closets so here are some tips on how the gentlemen can save money on formal attire:

1. Consignment - There are consignment stores that specialize in evening and formal wear. You can purchase a dark suit or even a tuxedo at a fraction of the price of a new one. Since tuxedos are timeless, this can be a great way to beef up your formal wardrobe.

2. Find a sale - Many formal wear stores have one day ‘blowout’ sales. You can purchase samples or one of a kind suits or tuxedos at deeply discounted prices. Although these sales do not include any alterations, it would be worth getting a quality piece that any tailor should be able to alter for you.

3. Dress it up - Sometimes a colorful vest or cummerbund can dress up an ordinary suit. Add an elegant tie or handkerchief to make it more formal.

4. Newspaper - Check your local want ads. You might be surprised to find a real bargain. Tuxedos are probably not common items for sale but if you are diligent, you may just get lucky!

5. Formalwear rentals - If you don’t want to invest in purchasing a tuxedo, you can always rent one. There are several tuxedo rental shops in most cities.

So you can still look great on a budget. Besides, elegance is in the attitude!

Wedding superstitions in different countries

Traditional Chinese wedding attireImage via WikipediaSomething old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” – probably we all know the rhyme. The old for bride’s family and friends’ help in times of need, the new for prosperity, the borrowed for husband’s family’s favour and the blue for faithfulness and fertility. In some countries people add something white for pureness but that is often overlooked, as traditionally the wedding dress of the bride is supposed to be white.

There are many other superstitions around the world that couples abide by. Some of them are very interesting.

In Japan, the groom is responsible for furnishing the bedroom he will be sharing with his wife. To ensure male children, another married couple that already has sons is invited to spend a night in the nuptial bed.

Jewish couples should await the wedding ceremony in separate rooms and not see each other. Also, guests are supposed to treat them as if they were a royal couple, titling them ‘king’ and ‘queen’ and making their lives as pleasant as possible on their special day.

In China, the wedding party usually doesn’t last longer than three hours, as it is bad luck for the alcohol to run out. Russian men drink their alcohol from the bride’s shoe in honour of the young couple.

In Kenya, the bride’s father spits on his daughter’s head and bosom to ensure her marriage lasts. The bride should also not look back when she walks to her husband’s home, as his family might not accept her and send her back. The Irish tie a hen to their bedpost for favourable marriage. The hen is supposed to lay an egg during the wedding night that is to be eaten for breakfast.

There are as many superstitions concerning the wedding as there are countries – each country has it’s own set of traditions that the young couple need to fulfil in order to ensure a happy, fulfilling marriage and each one of them adds to the magic of this beautiful event in the lives of two people. Sometimes considered silly, in truth they are a fun addition that can bring out the uniqueness.

How To Choose Underwear For Your Wedding Dress

Picking out the right style and design seems like a daunting task especially when facing such a myriad of styles available. So are you frightened back? Here is some advice as to how to choose the right underwear according to the style of your wedding dress.

Underwear for A-line & Full Skirted Dresses
To make the A-line wedding dress look more perfect, it is important to create a streamlined torso.
Body suits that can smooth any bulges or a waist cincher that can pull in your tummy and create a waistline are all good options for fulfilling this aim.

Underwear for One Shoulder & Backless Dresses
The problem with these styles is that you still need underwear but don’t want everyone to be able to see it!
The problem with these styles is that you need underwear that cannot be seen by others. A magic bra without any unsightly straps will support your bust and it is perfect for backless dresses. If you are going to wear an one shoulder dress, multiway bras allow you to move straps into various combinations to suit the style of the dress you are wearing.

Underwear for Empire Line Dresses
An empire line wedding dress usually is very tight around the bust and then it flows from under bust line. Therefore, it is important to find a bra that can keep everything in place.

A balconette bra will give you great uplift. And a padded or push-up bra will help boost your assets.

Underwear for Column Dresses
The secret with these dresses is to allow them to float. Unfortunately the fabric commonly used in their design tends to cling to the body so you’d better choose underwear that will not give visible lines under your dress.
The fabric used for such wedding dress usually tends to cling to the body. Therefore, it is crucial to find underwear that will not give visible lines under your dress.

To solve this problem, it is better to wear a silk slip under your dress which will be cool and comfortable meanwhile it allows the dress fabric to skim over your body. Also seamless underwear particularly will satisfy your requirement if your dress is made from light or sheer fabric.

Underwear for Mermaid or Trumpet Gowns
Wedding dresses with such styles are usually generally fitted through the torso. For such a wedding dress, you need underwear that can smooth your bulges of your tummy and allow your dress to glide down.
Knickers though not very sexy, they are perfect for slimming down your tummy and bottom. Another option is a firm control hip and waist slip, again not very sexy, but it will smooth your hips and bottom contour.

Wedding Wear Trends for 2010

Wedding gowns for 2010 are more romantic than ever. Strapless styles continue to be popular, but designers are also offering a variety of necklines for brides who want more coverage or a different look. Halters, v-necks, and scoop necks are all included in most bridal collections for 2010. One of the latest wedding wear trends is the fabric flower. Whether one large flower as a focal point at the waist or a cluster of tiny sheer flowers on a spaghetti strap, a floral themed dress can flatter any bride.

For bridesmaids, the hottest trend continues to be the “wear again” dress. Designers have produced stylish short dresses that are formal enough for most wedding ceremonies, yet also look appropriate for a dinner date or party. Another trend is the coordinated bridal party in which the bridesmaids do not wear exactly the same attire, but choose from several dresses that harmonize in color and formality. Bridesmaids come in different shapes and sizes, so allowing for some variation allows each lady to select a dress that flatters her unique figure.

For men in the wedding party, the classic black tuxedo always looks great. The trends come to play in accessories such as vests with color and texture. The four-in-hand tie that matches a vest is a very popular choice. Colors are available to coordinate with the bridesmaids. Popular colors for spring and summer weddings in 2010 include kelly and pistachio greens, watermelon and coral pinks, and a variety of purples and reds.

Bridesmaid Dresses For A Formal Wedding

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - FEBRUARY 10: A Model s...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

These days, there are so many different styles of bridesmaid dresses available that it is often overwhelming to choose the perfect ones. When searching for beautiful bridesmaid dresses for the most important ladies that you know, it is crucial to first consider the formality of your event. The formality of your day should match your bridesmaid dresses accordingly.

If you are hosting an ultra-formal wedding, you will ultimately want your bridesmaids to wear more formal dresses. If you choose bridesmaid dresses that are not as formal as the rest of your event, it can throw off the balance of your entire wedding party leaving you with somewhat awkward wedding photos.

There are several important factors to keep in mind as you are trying to choose the best bridesmaid dresses for your formal wedding including length, style and cut, colors, and accessories. Once you have found bridesmaid dresses that not only make you happy, but your bridesmaids as well, your entire event will be flawless.

Length

The first factor to consider when searching for extremely formal bridesmaid dresses is the length. If you are hosting a formal wedding, note that longer bridesmaid dress will always be considered more formal than shorter length dresses. If you can see the knees or ankles of your bridesmaids, their dresses are automatically grouped into the casual and informal categories, perfect for beach or destination weddings. Even the most formal styled short length dresses are not going to have the impact that a longer dress has during a formal event.

Style and Cut

When regarding bridesmaid dresses, just about any style and cut has the ability to look formal, depending on how it is worn. However, certain styles are quite obviously seen as more formal than others. High waist bridesmaid dresses, for example, give off a more traditional and classic look, and are usually better for the more formal events. Empire waist bridesmaid dresses also tend to look ultra-formal due to the way that they are cut, and the way that they so elegantly fall to the floor.

If an empire waist gown is not your idea of the perfect bridesmaid dress for the women that you feel closest to, you have multiple other choices from which to choose. For instance, both strapless and strapped gowns can look very formal depending on their length and general cut. Opt for a strapless chiffon dress with pleating detail at the bust and a beading neckline, or perhaps a sleeveless long chiffon dress with a Charmeuse rounded neckline and a sash at the waist. With all of the options available you can ensure that each of your bridesmaids feels beautiful in their gowns. A satin, empire ball gown bridesmaid dress, with a chiffon halter and ruched sash, can be just as formal as a satin strapless ball gown with pick up detailing on the skirt and a matching sash at the waist, depending on the style, cut, and color, as discussed in more detail below.

Colors

Another very important factor to consider when searching for more formal bridesmaid gowns is the colors that you choose. When you are looking through the multiple bridesmaid dress options, the colors that you choose are going to further define the formality of your event. For instance, darker colors, such as black, dark blues, dark purples, and deep reds will have a tendency to give off a more formal feel. On occasion, depending on what the rest of your wedding party and event look like, bridesmaid dresses in gold and silver hues can also look very formal. Traditionally, however, the deeper colors, as suggested by the “black-tie affair” motif, are the most formal.

Accessories

Accessories, which can accompany their beautiful gowns, are another factor to consider when searching for a formal look for your bridesmaids. If you are taking time to find extremely formal bridesmaid gowns for your bridal party, you want to be sure you devote just as much time into finding the perfect accessories for them as well. A well thought out ensemble for your bridesmaids will help to continue the cohesive nature of your event. For instance, for very formal dresses, you will want to have shoes that are high-heeled and classic looking. You might also consider pairing your bridesmaid dresses with timeless shawls, hand bags, or other high-end, formal accessories. The addition of these accessories can only further enhance the formality of your wedding day and in your wedding photos as well.
